Souters Sports win Landscape Industry Award
Following success at the 2012 National Landscape Awards, Souters Sports is pleased to announce that the company has won another industry award at the 2013 British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) National Landscape Awards, celebrated at the London Grosvenor House Hotel earlier this month (December).
Souters Sports enjoyed success in the ‘Sports Ground Installation’ category for their impressive works at the Graham Solley Sports Development Centre in Sheffield.
The scheme consisted of three new rugby pitches, two new football pitches, complete drainage and irrigation systems for the five natural pitches, two new artificial cricket wickets and four new natural cricket wickets.
The company was awarded the contract in early 2012 with work starting in June that year. The company were also tasked with the responsibility to bring the cricket wickets in to play for April 2013 and both the football and rugby pitches in to play for the new academic year in September.
The contractor worked closely with the client to develop a strategy for all construction work that ensured no waste material was transported from the site. The resulting reduction in vehicle movements, retention of valuable void space in landfills and minimising waste are all practical ‘green’ benefits, meaning there was no disruption to the local landscape or nearby residents.
Excellent progress was achieved in spite of the wet weather seen last year and this was recognised and awarded by BALI.
Adjudication of the Awards is carried out by an independent panel appointed by the BALI Board of Directors. The Judges commented: “This £4m scheme is an impressive redevelopment of over 30,000sq m sports field comprising rugby and football pitches, cricket wickets and drainage and irrigation systems. Construction started last year in poor weather but through good liaison by the contractor with local stakeholders the project was completed successfully. An extremely professional job evidenced by a good sward, levels and clearly effective drainage.”
The award was presented by Comedian Hugh Dennis.
Robert Heath, contracts director at Souters Sports, commented "The recent award is a fantastic accolade for the company. We fully recognise the success of our business is based on our partnerships working with consultants, customers and our suppliers. Together with the skill and dedication of our in-house staff who have worked hard in what has been a challenging year with inclement weather, we look forward to building on this success.”
